It seems somewhere along the way, you have not been taught the truth of God's word correctly, and there's some church hurt. I am so very sorry for that. I do appreciate you exploring it anyway and seeing how the Holy Spirit is at work in leading you to the truth. That's really good news.
That said, a lot of what you are saying in this article is not correct at all. There is so much more going on in this chapter, so much more context, than you discuss.
The summary is that salvation is by faith alone. And through that faith and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, one desires to keep God's commandments, including preserving the sanctity of marriage, avoiding sexual immorality, lovingly caring for those stuck in sin, teaching children about God's offer of grace, and sharing your time, treasure, and talent to build up the church and reach others with the gospel.
If one does not keep these and other commandments, does that mean one does not go to heaven? Absolutely not! Grace is available every single day to anyone who wants it (Lamentations 3:22-23). Plus, the Bible teaches us that our salvation is 100% secure; you cannot lose it if you are a true follower of Christ even if you sin (John 6:37 and 10:28-29).
Do we fall down and mess up? Of course! No one is perfect but God alone. Our sin prevents it. So we ask for forgiveness and keep trying to get it right through His strength and guidance. It's a marathon, not a sprint, until we see heaven one day. So we persevere and don't give up (1 Cor 9:24-27; Hebrews 12:1-2).
I encourage you to pray for God to reveal the truth of His word to you as you study and not lean on your own understanding. Go to believers you trust with your questions. Please keep exploring, keep reading, and keep an open heart to receive Him. I pray He blesses in you in amazing and unexpected ways. Peace to you, brother.
